From the Pacific to the Atlantic – Making of a video (Map this!)

The Panama Canal is a true marvel of engineering and medicine. Built against all odds, it was completed in 1914 and had a profound effect on the history of this small country. Last Saturday we boarded a ship to do a full transit of the canal, from ocean to ocean.

The Panama Canal presented to us our own technical problems. At the time we started this blog, we had expected to create a lot of multimedia presentations, but never did much due to lack of time. At Panama City, with large chunks of time on our hands, we finally got down to it. The presentation above is a result of many backbreaking hours in our cheap hotel room. Who says vacation is not work?

    Bravo! Fellini would be proud.

Any evidence of construction (long discussed) to create new locks for Panamax Plus sized vessels?

  2. Fred says:

BTW, I’ve gone over to the Dark Side, and this is being typed on a Mac Book Pro (I’m running dual boot with Windows XP) – and as painful as it is for me to admit, this is a much better way. If I were you I’d take that Dell and toss it like a frisbee into the sea.

  3. Ada says:

Wow, are you both turning into lecturers? I remember all this information from school but not presented as well.

Yes, there are dirt ramps on the sides as they prepare for the post-panamax era.

The force is strong with this one, he will never turn!!

Dear Shreesh and Nina, Wow! What a journey! I have only just got around to enjoying your comments. Did anyone tell you of the sad news of the death of Barbara McClure Pailhes on Friday, February 29? As you know she had been in ill health. Also my dear friend Grant Goodwin passed away on April 2. Sorry to be the bearer of sad news. however, keep travelling and keepin us informed of your progress. Love from Greta.

    Hi Greta,

We heard the sad news about Barbara. Although we knew that she was in bad health, it hard to believe that she is no longer there. We knew her for many years and cherish many fond memories. What a wonderful and strong woman she was!!!

We had not heard about Grant and did not know that he was in ill health. He was the quiet sort and I know you two were good friends. My condolences.
