Hello Fred,
Shreesh forgot to mention that on the way back from Yaxchitlan, there was no sign of any “convoy”. (There’s only one road and we would have been bound to pass it). We saw only one military checkpoint, compared to the almost daily experiences at Baja. So far Baja seems to have been the most “dangerous” and avoidable section of the trip.

I don’t have to remind you of the danger of drawing conclusions from a dataset with an “N” = 1, do I? The fact that you were not accosted the one time you drove that route in no way suggests that it is safe. I grant you that some travel texts are alarmist, but given there was a convoy, it would seem prudent to travel with it. Be careful!
