El Chalten is mostly trekking, so this may not be the best option (although you can see Fitzroy from the town itself). The second section, Perito Moreno Glacier, can be visited easily without trekking. The volcano eruption was in Chaiten, on the Carretera Austral. You do not have to trek here, but you do have to drive. Very little public transportation. An option is to do Navimag´s boat trip from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales, through the fjords in Chile, I have heard great reports of this. Neena Hello Shanta Auntie,

You are visiting the places I was looking into last year without taking official tours and wanting to do on our own. Trekking ofcourse may not be possible. but is is possible to get there for somebody like me? I loved all the pictures, the aftermath of volcano and the beautiful mouontains. Do you wonder how little we all are in all this! Just happy for you that you can do this in your youth. How lucky!!
